    Hey guys
I really think that my hip-mobility and my posture are two big weaknesses of mine that i would like to work on.
Have any of you made some experience with yoga and would you recommend it?
do you have any other recommendations on how to work on these two points?
Any advice would be apreciated 🙂
    Cheers

Tim is pretty familiar with Yoga.

From my knowledge, the important things that Yoga can help are:
    – Hip internal rotation
    – Front side hip opening
    – Breathing (in the nose, out the mouth, with rib cage down)
    – Propioception
Most of everything else should prioritise stability/strength in various positions.

    Lenny,

what type of yoga are you doing? Just how stiff are you? Can you do a toe touch squat no problem? What does your leg lower look like?

The problem with some yogas, Bikram in particular.. is they don’t respect proximal stability and they overstretch into positions that make no sense.

I like some yoga, such as BAPTISTE in limited volume when they respect core position and moving from a centered and “organized” position… but does it validate the time commitment when you could get into the positions we need you to be in to perform in ultimate and with our programming by doing exactly what Zi just listed… along with 4 way hip and all of our activation and mobility drills.

At the same time, there is something to be said about learning new forms of movement and reality is a lot of our programming has evolved from my trying many many different forms of yoga over the years and taking some of those concepts and putting them into a system for ultimate athletes.

For example, SLDL is Warrior 3. Reverse Lunge Hamstring and cat cow are other examples…

Gosh, I could go on for pages about my opinions here… Kundalina yoga is great for breath work. Yin yoga is good for recovery and down regulation… and most yoga’s will teach you how to meditate better which is deeply important for type A athletes who have a tough time turning their mind off to recover.

I’ll stop there for now … go ahead and send over some videos of the movements I’ve listed but its doubtful i’d recommend yoga, i’d just recommend doing our program because almost everything in our programs are designed to consistently improve hip mobility …

i don’t actually do any yoga yet… was just considering normal hata yoga, nothing crazy. but especially the time-efficiency is a very good point.
