Introduce the first Ultimate Specific 200g X Com Trainer Disc!

A note from Tim and Jamily Reviews:

“I’ve been playing and coaching competitive ultimate for 20 years now.  When I started into Ultimate I spent a ton of time with the Big Kahuna and Wham O 200 gram discs.  I notice the Big Kahuna had too big of a brim to compare to the flight of an ultimate disc and the Wham O heavy disc is made with very hard plastic.

When I was Coaching in China last year I mentioned this to my Collegue Ivan Xu and he brought it up the X Com.

X Com made us multiple iterations of the disc to arrive at a 200 Gram Trainer Disc that will allow us to practice heavy throwing with a close to a flight path / disc design as a Ultrastar.

Now, the official 200G trainer disc is done and available in Asia. Leading up to Boracay Open 2025 my team the Pilipinas Pirates used the disc almost daily.

The athletes love the disc and we used it to help improve our throws for the 2025 Boracay Open Championship.

I interviewed a few amazing minds in Ultimate after going through some of my Trainer Disc curriculum and am posting some of their first impressions here.

Now Trainer Discs are flying in China and all around Asia and soon USA & Europe

I’m proud of it and grateful to Ivan and X Com for their innovation and execution of a world class Ultimate Skills Training Disc.

I’m working on our Drills Curriculum separated into Solo Wind, Partner and Stacks of Discs drill menus. ”

Sample of MP Trainer Disc Stacks of Discs – Curriculum
  • Take a stack of 10 discs with you to an open space
  • Set up targets (goals, cones in a circle, DG net)
  • Execute drills from the menu below.
  • Monitor Pitch Count, note when you fatigue
  • Training solo can help with visualization and grounding.
  • Training with a partner can help with rebounding time, allowing more stacks to be executed in shorter time and catching skills for the rebounder.
  • Ideal to use stack of 10 200G Heavy Trainer Discs for the first set of each. Contrast with 175G for second set to maximize throwing muscle recruitment.
  • If possible, balance Right and Left Side throwing volume.
Trainer Disc Contrast – Stacks of 10 – Drill Menu
  • Distance – Max Power (pulling)
    • Drill – Find open space and see what your maximum is. Rip discs. Seperate sets with cue bias’s:  wrist, elbow, rotation, coil, finish, etc.  Nuance the cues for discipline sets.
    • Best to do right side and left
  • Max Time Aloft – Max Spin
    • Drill – Throw stacks of OIs and 10 IOs each side – floaty to target. How much butter can you put on it. Get it to go out, come in and sit flat right on target. Exaggerate angles and wrist mechanics.
  • Speed – Max Velocity
    • Drill – Throw max speed into goal or target.  if we were measuring your ball speed, how fast can you get the disc to fly?  Can you do this for 10 reps without fatigue? Do you lose speed on rep 6 or?
  • Target – Max Control
    • Drill: throw to goal, DG net or circle of cones
  • Visualization / Flow
    • Simple Drill: self Toss to pivot to huck x 5 + self toss to pivot to fake to around x 5
    • Advanced Drill – Run ATI’s figure 8. Rest between sets becomes a stack of 10. How much longer does it take you to get back to 130 working rested HR?
  • Timed Sets
    • Drill: Throw all in 10 discs in less than 15 seconds. think of it like power endurance for your throws. It is useful to have a rebounder perform as the athlete and catch all the 10 discs. Reaction drills.
