The reason I created this account was so my ultimate team could use it’s resources to help us get first at state. So we want to apex in out training around the 1st week of may. I put that in the program scheduler and got this:

Start your strength program on 1st week of Feb 2017
Start your agility program on 4th week of Feb 2017
Start your conditioning program on 2nd week of Mar 2017

I have a few questions that I hope I can get answered. First, how do we decide what program to do for each category, and do we only do that program for the allotted time or do we continue the program until it is completed. Thanks for your help!

With lifting, you got Program.Zero and Program.One. There are so-called Zero and One because if most of your teammates have never lifted before or have been inactive due to injury and have just finished rehab then you do Program.Zero. If most of you are functionally sound and are ready to take it one step up, go Program One.

Same for Speed & Agility, start with Zero and progress to One.

conditioning depends on competency level and how much time you got. Goose Cones is the toughest variation. I recommend you do 150 shuttles or triangle shuttles if you haven’t nailed the crossover turn technique.

Let us know how you go and show some vids! Would be awesome to see groups trying things out together and you’ll get feedback.

How about starting the different aspects of training. When we start a new one do we stop training in the other field, or do we continue the program until it is finished?

You do everything as they come. Yes, more work added over time.

If you do all the ‘Zero’ programs, you lift twice a week, do speed and agility twice a week, and do conditioning twice a week.

If you are not playing any Ultimate or maybe one hour game a week, or doing just skills, you should be fine.

If you are playing/training ultimate a lot, it may be wise to think twice about introducing a dedicated ESD program.

Balance your work. It’s up to how much time you all have and your priorities.

I am also trying to peak 1st week of May. I am on Phase 3 of Program zero for strength though, so I have already started “early”. Can I just begin both my agility and conditioning program now at the same time or is it crucial to start agility now and conditioning in a little over a week? And then begin Program one for strength in a few weeks?

    Jodien,

You can start your Agility now.

How’s your IFP and OFP looking? Are you getting a hang of it? Maybe do the 150 shuttle only.

The agility and ESD schedule recommendations are staggered slightly so that you spend a little bit of time grooving IFP/OFP on the field before putting volume through ESD. Yes you can start both at the same time, but if you’re very new to the concept, i would advise getting a hang of it first.

Peaking in May? I’m assuming it is a tournament or a tryout?
Program. One as a whole is more of an off-season program. If you’re doing tournaments, lots of team practice etc. cause it’s in-season, I would maybe juggle between Phase 3 & 4 of Program. One but really becareful with the intensity. Better to load light to medium and learn to know when to just not lift if you don’t feel right.

Ok, I have started the 150 shuttles and triangles. Havent started Agility bc I havent sat down to watch all of the videos. Hopefully next week! I am on the second week of conditioning and it is good, I like push to not just do random sprints but using the change of direction for improvements on cutting in the game. It definitely tough!

Yes peaking in May for the end of tryouts. Which strength is in season? I finished Program zero last week and want to start the correct one. If I start program one I may be able to get close to finishing before the season starts, but its all during tryouts. Looking forward to hearing from you, thanks!

    Jodien,

Do you feel you need more work in the Program.Zero scope of movements? Do you feel you need to progress to Program. One to get better? It’s a decision with many factors to consider.
How about this… Remember that it is not always about the load. Getting stronger can be about how competent in your movement skill. So, may i suggest that you go ahead with Program. One but be conservative with your load. I say this only because you are having tryouts and will be relatively in-season. If doing 3 sets is too much for you or you are feeling less than stellar on a particular day, don’t be afraid to dial the program a couple or more notches.

I dont know most of those answers. I am honestly just looking for a specific plan for in season lifting and something to follow πŸ™‚ I have been sticking to doing phase 3/4 of Program Zero. Is there a specific in season lifint plan that you guys offer? I just assumed after doing program zero that program one would be the next step. Let me know what you think I should do as tryouts are now and how to lift in season?

I have started speed and agility, it is feeling nice. The conditioning is going well but I had some tryouts last week and felt very winded, mostly when I would do longer cuts than just 25 yards, so I changed my shuttle sprint this week to 50 yards apart. Is there any other options to change up the shuttles and triangles so I am feeling less winded? This week is 1:1 rest ratio.

What is a good conditioning plan for in season? would it make sense to do Shuttles/Triangles twice, 1 8 week plan and then do it over? Or would that mess with peaking? It would be great to have specific in season plans πŸ™‚

    Thanks!

    Jodien,

We have an In-Season.One program up right now! Use that.

Regarding your conditioning, there’s many factors that go into how long you last before gassing out. When you say you felt “very winded”, some context would help. Was it a long point? Were you constantly running all out? Were you out of breath and breathing so hard you need to stop? etc.

Do you have a heart rate monitor? Have you tested your conditioning before?
