Do we need to press this heavy in the off-season?

    Off-season ultimate player

Pre-season and in-seasons have super high volumes in throwing and therefor INT.ROT on throwing side. Yes, important to even out strength on both sides. Probably would be safer to decrease intensity/volume in season to reduce stress on the shoulder with the high volume of accumulated stress from forehands.

Off-season is the best time to get in the heavy pressing because we still need it as its important for overall athletic development and its a safer time because we have lower throwing volumes.

I’ve been doing twice a week upper body push/pull routines with heavy dumbbells (55-60lbs) incline/flat/decline, etc. all summer long, even on game days (lift at noon, play in the evening).

I find with dumbbells there’s less shoulder impingement risk vs. barbell, plus I’m careful to warm-up and add rotator cuff stretches (with bands) post-workout.
